About me |
I have been working in advertising and marketing for over 30 years, covering every role within a studio from paste-up artist, creative artworker and designer to Studio Manager.
From the beginnings of digital studios, I have been involved in design and artwork for print, reprographics, digital-to-plate, web graphics, email design and build, web page design and broadcast graphics across all disciplines of marketing and advertising and in almost all sectors of the industry. I have been successful in managing studios and projects, and delivering profits by implementing various processes throughout those agencies, that have moved technologies forward and streamlined work flows. Over the years I have been required to think both practically, creatively and strategically and feel I have been a useful contributor in problem solving and providing creative solutions. I pride myself on working well with others, enabling them to produce high quality work, accurately, to tight deadlines and on budget. I feel I can be an asset to any future employer as I offer a wide range of experience and expertise. |
History |
Freelance – September 2016 - present. Following redundancy, I have been freelancing with several companies including King Henry, Founded, Innovision, Space, Grey Healthcare and Accoulite, in both creative artworking and design, but also studio manager cover roles
Clients – Dreams, Tetley, Samsung, P&0 Cruises, Aerohive, UK DIT, Baskin Robbins and Zipcar. Karmarama – July 2012 - September 2016. Following the merger of Crayon and Karmarama, I continued as Studio Manager but also worked ‘hands-on’ in the studio, across all disciplines of the agency’s work. Responsible for scheduling and ‘guiding’ work through the studio, I worked on advertising for print in both national and local news media, point-of-sale, out-of-home, package design, company literature, presentations and pitch work. I also undertook to increase the amount digital work the studio performed, becoming skilled in web-graphics and email design, homepage-takeovers, graphics for broadcast, mobile and desktop banners, iPad apps, online and digital presentations. Clients – Honda - cars, motorcycles and power tools, Laithwaites, Costa, BBC, Clydesdale Bank, Plusnet, Army, Confused, com, Nationwide, Onken, First Direct, B&Q. Hicklin Slade & Partners, later Crayon – January 2001 - July 2012. Joined as Studio Manager to help turn around an ‘ailing’ studio, building it up and overseeing a turnaround in its fortunes. I reduced the dependence on freelancers and built an excellent team of artworkers, designers and retouchers, implemented improved accountability and streamlined work flows. I built HS&P’s first website. I remained a ‘hands-on’ artworker, introducing then new technologies to the studio such as full-retouching, digital-to-plate, all digital printing and an on-line ordering, customising and delivery service for Honda dealers for their local press adverts. Clients – Honda, Sony, Diageo, National Lottery, BT, British Gas, Hiscox, Ted Baker. Marketing Drive Ltd – May 1988 - December 2001. Senior Artworker. Initially joined as paste-up artist and typesetter, but helped oversee the introduction of Macs to the studio, eventually built a reasonable sized studio of artworkers, designers and art directors all using the most recent digital technology. Promoted to Studio Manager, as well as day-to-day running of the studio and ‘hands-on’ artwork and design, I also was the lead IT manager in the studio. Clients – Guinness, McVities, KP, Harp Brewing, Europcar, EuroDisney |
